Early morning Shikara ride highlighting the contemporary history of Dal Lake and an ornithological talk, with our
guiding expert. The morning would be followed by a leisurely lunch, with storytelling by out host on the culture’s of
the region. This afternoon, as an option, we would recommend a heritage walk through the old city with our expert.
The evening would be spent at leisure with a special surprise dinner planned for our guests!

Depart Srinagar after an early breakfast. An estimated drive of about four hours to Dras, via Sonamarg, we go over the famous Zojila.

Once we have crossed it, we will stop for lunch at Dras, often promoted as “the world’s second coldest place”. After lunch, we drive another estimated two hours towards Kargil and proceed to check into our hotel. Guests are escorted to Kargil’s Munshi Museum and following this may enjoy some leisurely time in the local bazaar savouring the local
produce of apricots, seeds and oils.

An estimated two hour drive takes us to Chigtan (Chiktan) – the folklore and epic capital of the Western Himalaya. In Chigtan we will spend a leisurely few hours interacting with storytellers, epic chanters and villagers to talk a little about life in this village of western Ladakh. After lunch, we will continue our journey onto Nurla. This evening we propose leisurely time for the guests, followed by dinner at the hotel.

After breakfast, we will drive for approximately 30 minutes to Tia, the oldest village in the region at approximately 3,394m/11,135ft. It is located on a hill and comprises of about 200 families. We will walk through the village’s maze of alleys, tunnelled streets and courtyards. We then walk down to Tingmosgham Palace for a special preplanned
lunch. Remaining evening would be at leisure, with the overnight stay and dinner at Nurla.

After breakfast, the guests will be driven to Leh and enroute would visit Alchi monastic complex and explore its world famous 10th century murals that clearly display a synthesis of artistic styles from as far away as Central Asia and as close as Kashmir. After a few-hours stop, we continue our journey towards Leh, our home for the next few days. After lunch, some rest and relaxation. In the late afternoon, we will be treated to the creations of a Ladakhi band that fuses traditional music with a modern flavor!

After breakfast, you will be driven to the Leh Palace followed with a walk downhill to LAMO, a locally conceptualized center that documents the immediate material history and traditional architecture of Leh. Then walk downhill to the Central Asian Museum with a special tour through the museum guided by our expert. After lunch, a walk through the
market place and then finally wrap up the day with a visit to Shanti stupa for a bird’s eye view of Leh and its environs.

After breakfast, we go on to tour the Indus valley monasteries Hemis and Thiksey. The morning tour will end with a
visit to the Stok Palace Museum, which houses the items of the royal family of Ladakh. We will then proceed for lunch, at a recommended location. This would be followed by the remaining evening at leisure for the guests and few suggested activities which maybe curated on the basis of their preferences.

An early start to drive southeast (30 mins) to the Thiksey Monastery picturesquely situated on a small hill. At the monastery, we will seek to witness the Morning Prayer ceremony of the monks, which begins before sunrise at 7 a.m. After prayers, you will be guided to visit the other parts of the monastery, followed by breakfast.

After breakfast, we drive through an incredibly scenic route, following which the guests would be escorted for a special lunch at an exclusive location with magnificent views.

For the afternoon, we propose some time for rest and relaxation, perhaps some re-packing, followed by an evening farewell dinner and a round-up conversation to review our experience of the tour!

Guests may depart for their flights back home, and be prepared; weather willing, this will be one of the most spectacular flights you can take on planet earth as you fly south and eastwards along the length of the mighty
Himalayan range!
