Post breakfast, drive to Munnar (Approx.125 Kms / 4 Hrs).

Munnar is a beautiful hill station on the Western Ghats at about 1600 metres above sea level. There are lakes, reservoirs, forests and several tea estates in Munnar. Famous Tata Tea estate and factory is in Munnar. There is a wildlife sanctuary in the Eravikulam –Rajamala area in the Munnar forest division. Munnar was the summer resort of the British Government in the South.

Afternoon visit Tea Museum and Tea Plantations at Munnar.

The unique tea museum run by the Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Private Limited, the first of its kind in the country showcases the history of tea cultivation in Munnar since 1876 when tea was first planted in this tea plantation district. On display are several rare artefacts and curios as well as evocative photographs from an era long forgotten and of which few are aware. The museum has a miniature tea factory attached to it where visitors are expertly familiarized with the nuances of tea cultivation and processing as well as tea tasting. Attracting tourists from around the globe, the visit to the museum an eye-opener, giving one an interesting insight into the evolution of Munnar’s famed tea plantations.

Visit Eravikulam –Rajamala area in the Munnar forest division famous for endangered Nilgiri Thars. (Eravikulam national park will remain closed from end of Jan to mid of Apr every year due to breeding season of Nilgiri Thars)

In the afternoon take a 03 Hrs jeep ride thru the Tea Plantations and nearby attractions. You can have a look at the tea picking and labour activities where there is an opportunity.

Periyar is South India’s most popular wildlife sanctuary, encompassing an area of 777 sq km. Set on the attractive man-made Periyar Lake; it attracts over 300,000 visitors a year. Though the sanctuary was made a part of Project Tiger in 1973, it is better known for its elephants.

Afternoon visit nearest Spice Plantations and get acquainted with various local verities. Later take a common boat ride at Lake Periyar (03.30 PM to 05 PM) – Opportunity sight wild life animals on the banks of lake Periyar.

After breakfast proceed to Kumarakom (Approx.115 Kms / 3.5Hrs). The scenic drive thru plantations and greenery gives you memorable way to Kumarakom.

Kumarakom an unbelievably beautiful paradise of mangrove forests, emerald green paddy fields and coconut groves interspersed with enchanting waterways and canals adorned with white lilies. Situated on the Vembanad Lake, in this small water world you’ll come across plenty of traditional country crafts, boats and canoes which will take you into the heart of the scenic lake.
