A car-free mountain village featuring wooden chalets and plenty of sun: this is Wengen, at the foot of the Jungfrau. The cable car takes its passengers up to the Männlichen directly from the village itself, and in summer the roof can even be opened up. The Wengernalp Railway, with its yellow and green carriages, has reached cult status. The longest cogwheel railway in the world takes you to car-free Wengen and on to Grindelwald and the Kleine Scheidegg at the foot of the Eiger north face in comfort.

Lucerne is best-known for the wooden bridge spanning the river to connect the city. The most famous and world’s oldest one is the Chapel Bridge dating back to the 14th century. This pedestrians bridge is decorated with pictures representing its history.

It is an ancient town with strikingly modern sensibilities, fresco-adorned historic houses line the streets, but it’s also home to the cutting-edge KKL, a concert hall and art gallery. Take the cableways up the Pilatus, Stanserhorn or Rigi mountains for breathtaking views, or see Lake Lucerne on a steamship cruise.

offers a fantastic view of the city, lake and mountains. Alternatively, you can have a good time on Lake Maggiore.

Covering an area of 12,000 square metres, the Piazza Grande is one of the largest squares in Switzerland. The Piazza Grande is best known for the Moon & Stars music festival in July and
the Locarno Film Festival in August. Also recommended: Enjoy the atmosphere of the square with an espresso. Make sure to drop by on Thursday, which is market day.

Treat yourself to a trip to the Maggia Valley or the Verzasca Valley with the world-famous Ponte dei Salti bridge in Lavertezzo. Equally recommended is the fantastic panoramic route by train to
the Centovalli. An alternative excursion: the Brissago Islands, often referred to as the Botanical Garden of Ticino.
